The Seventh Day Sabbath (open letter)

(Please note that below is a modified reply to someone accusing me of be being a Seventh Day Adventist because I keep God's Sabbath).

I disagree with the SDA because the SDA still believe and uphold that Ellen White is prophet, even though she made false prophecies. I don't agree about the SDA's claims that Jesus is Michael the Angel. I already told you that I'm not a member of the SDA. I just follow Jesus' teachings and obey His Commandments. So please do not think that the SDA owns the Sabbath... The Sabbath belongs to the LORD your God, He said it is His holy day. See Genesis 2:3, Exodus 20:10-11, Isaiah 58:13-14:

Exodus 20:10-11
"But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: 

For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and MADE IT HOLY.

Jesus says, If you love God with all your heart, all your mind and all your soul, therefore Keep (obey) God's Commandments:

Exodus 20:6 
"And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments."

John 14:15
"If ye love me, keep my commandments."

Now you mentioned Romans 14:5,

"One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind."

Surely it’s NOT talking about the Sabbath, please read the CONTEXT carefully and be honest with yourself for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness (2 Timothy 3:16) and please do not try to think above over what is written in the Scriptures (1 Cor. 4:6).

Before Romans 14:5, it is talking about food, and after Romans 14:5, it is talking about food. See the next verse, 14:6 saying,

"Those who think one day is more important than other days are doing that for the Lord. And those who eat all kinds of food are doing that for the Lord. Yes, they give thanks to God for that food. And those who refuse to eat some foods do that for the Lord. They also give thanks to God."

Now you see Paul is specifically talking about food or drink, which is related to about not regarding this day or other day (talking about fasting days, the Jews have specific days which they set apart for fasting, and/or eating specifically on a special day), God accepts all. That's why Paul says, do not judge people on what did they drink or eat on special days, according  to 14:17:

"For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost."

Now you see that Paul was talking about food or drink in the whole Romans 14 chapter, nothing was mentioned about the Sabbath. Please do not try to select only one verse to fit your interpretation / bias or beliefs. If you are serious about obeying God, you need to be careful and examine carefully and humble yourself and obey God's Commandments.

Now on to Colossians 2:16 which you brought up,

"Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days."

This is a completely separate book and context, now, it is NOT talking about food, you can’t use it in connection with Romans 14:15.

The above Colossians 2:16 is NOT talking about the 7th day (weekly) Sabbath, but it is referring to the sabbath days which occurs in the Festivals. Both are actually different.
If you doubt this, then please check the Bible Commentary Albert Barnes, he explained:

“But the use of the term in the plural number, and the connection, show that he had his eye on the great number of days which were observed by the Hebrews as festivals, as a part of their ceremonial and typical law, and not to the moral law, or the Ten Commandments. No part of the moral law - no one of the ten commandments could be spoken of as “a shadow of good things to come.” These commandments are, from the nature of moral law, of perpetual and universal obligation.” 

And Also Adam Clarke commentary explained on this same verse:

“There is no intimation here that the Sabbath was done away, or that its moral use was superseded, by the introduction of Christianity. I have shown elsewhere that, Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy, is a command of perpetual obligation, and can never be superseded but by the final termination of time. As it is a type of that rest which remains for the people of God, of an eternity of bliss, it must continue in full force till that eternity arrives; for no type ever ceases till the antitype be come. Besides, it is not clear that the apostle refers at all to the Sabbath in this place, whether Jewish or Christian; his σαββατων, of sabbaths or weeks, most probably refers to their feasts of weeks, of which much has been said in the notes on the Pentateuch.”

I applause both Commentors who read carefully and honestly interpreted according to the holy Scriptures. They explained clearly that this verse was not referring to the 7th day (weekly) Sabbath but to the festival sabbaths (which is different). So this verse show us that we do not judge them (referring to the Jews judging the Gentile Christians) who want to keep festivals including festival sabbaths till Jesus comes again. The Jewish priests’ commandments (not God’s commandments, but their doctrines and dogmas) forbade Gentile Christians who want to be a part of the festvials.

The Apostle Paul rebuked the Gentile Christians for accepting the Jews's dogma and teachings (which is different from God's Ten Commandments) in Col 2:20:

“Wherefore if ye be dead with Christ from the rudiments of the world, why, as though living in the world, are ye subject to ordinances, (Touch not; taste not; handle not; Which all are to perish with the using;) after the commandments and doctrines of men?”

Now you see, both Romans 14:5 (talking about food) and Colossians 2:16 (talking about festival sabbaths) clearly did not mention the Ten Commandment's 7^th day (weekly) Sabbath.

If we read carefully and honestly, we will see that Paul kept the Sabbath, we see no mention of Paul saying that the Sabbath was done away with. When the Gentiles wanted to hear more about Jesus, Paul instructed them to come and listen to him preach about Jesus on Sabbaths (he did not even mention Sundays – see Acts 13:42). When there were many new gentile converts, Jesus' disciples had a big, serious meeting about what to with them, being unlearned about the ways of God, and they decided and confirmed that the Gentile Christians were to go to the synagogues every Sabbath day to learn about God (Moses’ law including the Ten Commandments) (see Acts 15:21).

Paul kept the Sabbath (he never preached it away), and he says in 1 Cor 11:1:

"Follow my example, just as I follow the example of Christ."

Jesus kept the Sabbath, all of His Apostles kept the Sabbath, and Paul kept the Sabbath... so we follow Jesus' example and keep the Sabbath. I hope you do the same.

You should ask yourself why most Christians do not keep the seventh day Sabbath commandment any more. History shows that the Catholics killed and tortured the early Christians for keeping God’s Sabbath, threatening to label them as Jewish if they do so. See this video (it has history subtitles). If you look in Catholic Encyclopedia, the Catholics boasted that it was by their authority that they removed the seventh day Sabbath and set up Sunday instead. Please check for yourself. Jesus said we are to keep His commandments, and He even said any one who teaches to break even the least of His commandments, will be called the least in the kingdom of God (Matthew 5:19):

"Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven."

Jesus does not change, He is the same, yesterday, today and forever. He created the Sabbath and proclaimed that it is Holy day, during Creation, before sin entered in the world. We do well when we honour our Creation by remembering His amazing Creation by resting on His holy day that He made and chose for Himself. God is delighted when we keep His sabbath out of love to Him (All of Isaiah 55 continuing to Isaiah 56: 8).

John 14:15
